This was a good book about making interesting and effective presentations, which was not exactly what I was expecting when I ordered it. I was hoping for something to help me be a better speaker in general and more able to think on my feet in situations other than giving a presentation. But it did a great job of teaching what it was actually trying to teach.
I wasn't aware the book was about public speaking, which I have no issue with. I would recommend this for those who have issues writing or speaking publicly.
I have given many copies of this to new managers, it is about the best book ever for learning the art of effective corporate management.
The Articulate Executive was exactly right when he suggested keeping the speech as conversational as possible. Toogood stated "We are always at our best when we are ourselves, speaking conversationally in everyday, ordinary language. This is as true a statement as you can get when it comes to giving a presentation. The author gives amazing tips throughout the book. The suggestions range from how to present a power point to how to dress during a presentation. This book is a must own for people learning to give presentations.
This was a fantastic read.When a situation is not favorable, Toogood advises to focus on something positive to put a good face on a negative story. I think this is a key point that often gets overlooked when working in business.He also explains the 18-minute wall and 8-second rule when speaking. The presentation should be limited to 18 minutes if possible. I believe tools and methods book are a great asset to any business executive looking to further their communication skills.

I love a good captured fantasy romance novel and this book delivered! It was safe read, had elements of a light read, sweet hero and great action scenes. I would highly recommend this read!!!Heroine witness her family get killed by slave traders.. The beginning does have some violence written towards other female character but heroine manages to escape any abuse. However they do drug her and injure her before her escape. It is how hero finds her. Hero lives in the wilderness. He is a caveman-like, Neanderthal, savage that is wishing for a mate. He has gift that he can smell and hear things that make him a strong predator, hunter, protector. He smells her before he sees her. He saves her, offers her protection and claims her (she really did not have a choice).Heroine is understandably upset and scared. She tries to escape and fight her capture. However, hero never disrespects her and is so sweet towards her. He shows her she is free by his side and he would protect her from anyone/anything that dares to take her from him. He is a simple savage but he is fierce and primitive. He wants a mate and children. Heroine soon realizes his dreams are hers as well. He makes her feel safe and loved. It is only then that hero physically claims her. He gave her the time to trust him and willingly, he wanted that most of all, give herself to him.I want to add the scenes where he saves her were very well written and what I picture must have look liked living in prehistoric times. Hero was ferocious in his protection of heroine, and no man or beast would harm her on his watch. Great action scenes. If I had to be captured and could pick it would be this hero!The epilogue was sweet. I enjoyed this fantasy novel and highly recommend it. I will add it is a fast read. No OW or OM. Sexual scenes were steamy but towards the last 1/3 of the short novel. Yet, chemistry was palpable between hero and heroine. Hero was heroine's first. Would re read this novel.
Not as "savage" as I thought it would be. The "savage" is actually quite tame. Not quite certain why this author is obsessed with every book's HEA ending being the same - pregnant with a bunch of kids - but whatever. However, the genre is definitely different from this author. Most of the novellas I've read of Snow's is depicted as "real life" situations. So it was nice to read something outside of that.
First let me start out by saying that Jenika Snow has been a favorite author of mine for a long time. That doesn't mean that I love all of her stories, but most of the time I enjoy them. A Mate for the Savage started out good, but as the story went on it began to get redundant as well as repetitious. I liked the kind of syfy story line but a couple of things didn't ring true for me. One being that I felt Styx had gone out of his barbarian character when he was dealing with Audrey. Anyway,it was still a good short read.
Audrey and Styx are two well-developed characters in this short novella. I had no problem falling right into the story and it was wringing the hell out of my emotions. Styx possesses Audrey and wants her to have his children, in the process, he comes to love her deeply. Jenika is so good at creating Alpha men that I swoon over. I came to care about these characters and wanted them to find that claiming true love!
I love this story! It’s a shame it has such a tragic beginning, but all of the pain and struggles are worth it when the characters reach their HEA. I mean who wouldn’t love a hot, alpha male who has eyes only for you. All of his actions are only to keep you safe and happy. Grab your copy to fall in love today.
This is a fantastic story with a HEA. Audrey has suffered so much. Her family killed and she sold into slavery was all thrust upon her. When Audrey escapes and gets rescued by Styx, it is all she can do is survive but survive she does. Styx and Audrey have quite an adventure. The plot and characters are very well written and developed. A very good 👠read.
Wish this story was longer but it was a great addition to Ms. Snow's books.The heroine is a strong lady who is very smart and very courageous. I don't want to spoil any of the story but from the start, her character comes through when her home is invaded and she figures out what to do. Unlike other women in this story, she did not give up no matter how bleak things looked. Even when she met the hero, she did what she felt was best and followed her heart. The hero was a bit of a loner but was also lonely though that's a read-between the lines lol. The scenes were hot and I fell in love with both characters so much I didn't want it to end!!!!
I'm a big fan of Ms. Snow, but wasn't sure about this "Otherworldly" story line. I should have know better. No matter the genre or length of her books, she always delivers. This sexy, caring, controlling Alpha male had me jealous of his mate, who was deserving of his devotion. What I want to know is if Stxy has a twin and where can I find him!!!

Rarely have I read a book that makes me think so much. I have to read it with a highlighter and wish I had a photographic memory to retain it all. This book defies being read quickly. Like for "A People's History of the United States," this book makes me look back at history but through a different lens. Although I bought the book to look at Queer history, I didn't realize this books is really a history of sexual, gender differences, and "othering." Perhaps that's what queer history is, but I'm more familiar with gay history and have not encountered this wider view of all non heteronormative behavior before. While I thought it would be like other history books, recounting dates and facts, this book is far better in that it attempts to give the reasons behind the history. It forces you think bigger. I have a degree in Religious Studies, an interest in spirituality and social commentary. I found the information on Transcendentalism and the development of an American ethos very interesting. This is a book that I will reread many times. If I'm gushing it's because I haven't read a lot of gay/queer history so I don't have enough experience with it to compare it with other texts, as other reviewers here might.
Since I have been alive and living in the United States during the covered period covered in "A Queer History in the United States" and been involved in the Queer community, I am aware of most of the historical period covered. I found the book interesting but covered very little that wasn't already known. Far better reading and little known facts are better covered in Lillian Faderman's book, "The Gay Revolution" which is also available on Amazon.com.

But it should be winning accolades in the mainstream media too. And by the way ... high school teachers, please take a look at this. It could be what your students are looking for in order to understand the complex modern world they will soon be joining as adults.
This is far from a concise history of Queer United States history. While I enjoyed the book, the author did tend to jump around chronologically, which makes it a bit hard to stay focused on the time periods he was trying to portray. Other than that, the book is interesting and reads easily, doesn't get too bogged down in the mundane. If you are looking for a quick run through of some major points (as well as some not too well known ones) in US Queer history, this is the book for you. If you are looking for some in-depth analysis of our history, look elsewhere!
I found it good because I was ignorant of homosexual history in our country. I would recommend this book as a group study book or a college class text (or supplemental reading).
I bought this gift for my daughter for Christmas. When she unwrapped it, she actually cried. Glad I bought this!
Bronski writes well and includes a wealth of information. An excellent reference and an interesting read.
As a scholarly work it needed a few more examples of early Americans. Perhaps speculation at best, but never the less, when referring to the early arrivals in America, one can only suspect at best on their private lives of whatever kind.
