This is the type of book that will leave readers wanting to learn more.
An interesting story about the harrowing events leading up to and through the historic Civil Rights Voting Rights campaign from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. Sharing the personal insights of a young woman’s experiences during “the March†were very powerful and compelling and convinced me to cross the the Edmund Pettus Bridge in recognition of the Marchers’ courage and sacrifice.
From it's provocative first sentence -- "By the time I was fifteen years old, I had been in jail nine times," to it's powerful conclusion, this book allows young readers to feel what it was like to be part of the Civil Rights movement. It also takes the reader inside the close-knit community of African American families in Selma and shows how pastors, parents, teachers and children all had roles to play in making the case for freedom and the right to vote. The combination of documentary photographs and illustrations also serves to bring the reader into the action. It's a fascinating read and a great way to engage young people with the roles that ordinary people play in great events and movements.
I'm using this book in class with my adult ESL students. They are finding it horrifying and fascinating and most of them were not aware of any of this history. The book has provoked many interesting class discussions. It works well to show clips from the movie Selma. I highly recommend this book.
A chilling tale from the perspective of a young 15 year old, who made a difference in our fight for equality.
My daughter read this book driving from Montgomery to selma on a civil rights tour. She loved the book and felt she understood the struggle, cause, and amazement of the movement. She is 10 years old. We bought an extra one later for a donation to the school library.
My dougther loves this book, i th ink agree may become a layer or activist or something asking those lines she gets very passionate about it even when she is only 9.

You learn how to prevent and treat the common types of allergies, with extensive information on hay fever and skin rashes, and short but helpful sections on allergic reactions to food, drugs, and insects. The asthma section is especially comprehensive, with instructions for recognizing and managing asthma triggers, monitoring air flow, selecting the best medications for both short-term and long-term relief, and special considerations for pregnant women and children. The book covers both self-help and pharmacological treatment methods in depth, but not alternative treatments. One of the most helpful chapters is "Relieving Your Rhinitis," which will appeal especially to the 45 million Americans who suffer from hay fever. Allergic rhinitis (the medical term) is not a fever and is caused not by hay, but rather by airborne pollen from grasses, trees, and weeds. Great book by a great Doc! A must read by those suffering from allergies and asthma!

I got this book about two weeks after my 9-year-old son suffered his first asthma attack. After reading it, I feel much better prepared to cope with his condition. The author's tone is reassuring without being condescending. And there is an enormous amount of information, everything from how to choose a specialist to charts describing the effects and usual dosages of the most common medications. Since I have been suffering from allergies and sinus problems myself this spring, it was especially useful. I think this might be the best investment in our family's health I ever made!
Finally, a book that quickly synthesizes complex information into usable pieces! Allergies and asthma are de-mystified with practical examples. Dr. Berger's approach is uplifting, reassuring, and warm. No preaching or insistance that you do things his way or no way as in the case of so many other authors of asthma and allergy books. too much mistakes!this book could be better. look at the sample answers for chapter 8 alone. i have found more while reading it! the cost of this book is way too much for the mistakes.the content is however more than sufficient for the review but watch out for the mistakes!
Used for my 6-week CNA class. Didn't really use this book. I used the other more due to us doing hands on skills most of the course. Loved my teacher at HCC! This is a book for extra help. I am not sure if you'll use it during your class, but I didn't. Did help me on practice written test questions for the final though!
It is what I had to get for school. Nothing more but I like having it on phone makes it easier to carry around.
A lot of outdated science and methods. Not organized in the most usable manner. Much better tools are available, but this is sadly the required text for the course.
This book is easy reading and understandable. The colored pictures and detailed. A lot of information for Certified Nursing Assistance or to jump start a career in Nursing to be ahead of the game. Or, if you are just interested in the human body. Head first and enjoy
