This book means so much to anyone who grew up with the great hymns of the church. It gets right to the heart of what's meant in many of the hymns, expostulates on the passage of Scripture from which some are drawn and often gives the history of the person who wrote the familiar lyrics or melodies. I've enjoyed mine so much I've bought it for others including friends who play the organ in church and some who are responsible for the music ministry at their place of worship. It's always received with great joy and immediately becomes a cherished treasure of the owner.
I use this mainly as an addition to my morning devotionals, but you could use it for referencing or just about anything. It is devotions based on popular hymns. The one for October 10, for instance, tells us how the beloved hymn "Jesus Loves Me" came to be written.
I LOVE this book. On one side is the hymn and on the other side of the page is the history of the song - who wrote it and why. I never knew many of these and I am loving learning about it all. I am using it for music instruction with my 4 year old
This is a very nice and informative publication of old hymns. Each hymn gets 2 pages. The words are on one page and a short history of the author on the other. It is especially interesting to read the circumstances or inspiration under which the hymn was written. Biblical verses are also given for reference.

Truly a magnificent sequel to Oswald Spenglers, "Decline of the West" if you've read it, and if you haven't a more defined, yet simplified version with solutions given the modern post WW2 state of the West that has forever changed things even to the point Spengler could never have fully imagined. If Spengler leaves you with hopelessness, which wasn't his intent, and a gigantic problem with no solutions, then Yockey will light a fire deep in your soul with a clear march to where we are headed.With his vast intellect and unique American witty humor while writing with violent passion you can see how Yockey lived no different than how he wrote in his short life. His incredible understanding of the world around him, before, and ahead of his time will have many looking back in a timeless manner as if the man was a mystic or prophet when compared to modern times, or even those yet to unfold 50 years from now. In reality it's his supreme perception for his time that's often lost to any given current era like it usually is among all the greats we later reflect on to recognize that they WERE GREATS in the first place.If you're struggling to make sense of the world around you, politically, socially, morally, ethically, economically, or even spiritually, then look no further. Leaving this 1-star rating not for the content of the book, but due to this particular edition of it. This edition apparently omitted the table of contents, which is pretty frustrating and really makes the project I'm working on difficult.
Picks up where Spengler left off and goes even further.
I returned it to Amazon.
Incredible book and a must read. This book changed my life.
Much of it is cribbed from Carl Schmitt and Oswald Spengler, but still a great book. It changed the way I look at concepts such as the State, nations, politics, and other things.
