Alberto Paz and Valorie Hart own Planet Tango, a company dedicated to preserve, foster, and advance the traditional values of the Argentine Tango culture, with a school and tango salon located in New Orleans, LA. I've spent the last 10 months learning tango primarily from YouTube videos. I saw a few of the videos on YouTube from the DVD that accompanies this book and they seemed promising. For $4 plus shipping I didn't have much to loose because dance classes and milonga s cost more than this.The product is advertised as the book being the central teaching element and the DVD is a supplement. The book is excellent. It's so easy to read and covers so much material in a succinct manner. IMO this book is a great place to start or pick up at any point in your learning process. It should be a classic and maybe if it's discovered and promoted the way it deserves to be it will.
The book and the dvd are the very best. You cannot go wrong with this one. Its a clear and simple step by step guide. The dvd alone is worth the price. Rarely do you find a book that is this good.
The picture on the cover is of a "sexy" young couple in a not so tango pose....and not even wearing dance shoes. But we know that sex sells so I can understand the reason for the cover.The content of book itself is the genuine article and does, in great detail, describe many of the must know concepts of the Argentine Tango. Dispersed within the book are also many other little gems of knowledge.As for the explanations of the physical movements they are at times tedious and confusing for a potential neophite but they are accurate. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words but often it takes many more than a thousand words to describe a picture. In a series of pictures, it is not what is just pictures that is important but the transition in between picture to picture. These transitions are where the true knowledge and understanding lies and is often almost impossible to explain.So my suggestion is to buy this book...it is a good one, on and about tango. But also seek yourself some good live instruction from a competent instructor. By the way, it is hard to find a good instructor just as it is for a good instructor to find a good student so choose wisely.As for the included DVD it is also very good and does clarify much of the explanation in the book and then some. I enjoyed it and once again gleamed some really nice little gems.As an instructor of the Argentine Tango myself I am always looking for ways to improve my own knowledge and teaching method as well as explaining it to my students. So, I do highly recommend this book for all looking to improve their knowledge of this beautiful and extraordinary dance.
the best "how to" book on the market. I bought 3 so far for other class mates!
The book came and was in very good condition with the dvd. I couldn't get the dvd to play on all but the newest dvd player I had.
