I was diagnosed with Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) when I was a slim 14-year-old. By the time I was 35 and had two sets of twins, I weighed over 250 pounds, and I needed help. I tried Nutri-system, South Beach, Weight Watchers (twice), the body type diet and Atkins, and nothing worked for my body. Finally, a friend with PCOS told me she was having success with this book, and it was basically the answer to my prayers.I actually really hate the cover of this book, because it’s so marketing-centric with it’s “Fat Making Machine” and the choice of the word “diet.” But diets, to me, are systems of eating that are temporary. This is not really a diet; it’s a guide for learning to balance any food so you can eat for the rest of your life.Basically, this is the insulin resistance bible. The Insulin Resistance Diet explains why it’s necessary to eat protein with carbohydrates and what amounts work best for balance. It also explains which kinds of foods will spike a blood sugar response and how to avoid that so that you can continue to eat from all the food groups in a healthy way. It’s about learning how to pair foods–any foods you want–in a way that won’t make you feel sick or store them as fat. Yes, there are recipes (I didn't use them much, but they're there), but really, this book is about learning how to eat and adapt any recipe you want for the rest of your life. 90 pounds later, I can definitely say this book is worth the money.

I have PCOS with Insulin Resistance. My weight had gotten out of control and I had no idea what to do. I heard about The Insulin Resistance Diet from other women with PCOS, so I decided to give it a try. I have found this way of eating to be extremely easy to follow, easy to stick to, and I've lost over 30 pounds in 2 months. I'll definitely be sticking with the Insulin Resistance Diet

I bought this book in 2010 when my Dr. told me I was pre-diabetic. I do not have diabetes, 7 years later. This solid advice works in preventing diabetes, a completely preventable disaster.

Getting older and fatter. I have tried low carb, Weight Watchers. exercise, my doctor's diet, Adkins. hyper exercise 30 day diets. pre cooked food diets and on and on. If i try very hard count my calories to 800 and exercise i might loose 10 lbs over time. The minute i eat or drink anything not on the diet I gain 2 lbs that day. I end up fatter than when I started. Now with this program I lost 4 lbs the first week without trying. I study a lot so exercise is minimal. I have all my life needed more sleep than the average person. I sleep soundly at night and need a 30 min nap every day. MOT ANY MORE! This program has changed my sleep pattern in one week. I do not nap and I stay up until 11 pm every night. THANK YOU FOR THIS BOOK!

I'm so disappointed in this book and the way it almost misguided me in my journey to treat my insulin resistance/PCOS. The book is founded on the completely false idea that protein causes no insulin response, so you should eat a lot of it. In fact, high protein no-carb foods like eggs, meat and ESPECIALLY the skim dairy recommended so much in this book, all measure very high on the insulin index. Some foods, like cheese, and steak, cause an insulin spike as big as that of white bread! No-glucose-spike does NOT mean no-insulin-spike, and this is a big problem for someone who already produces excess insulin after every meal and has hormone problems because of it. There are many studies on this - please research for yourself. Was this information not available when the book was written? I'm so sad because initially I was so excited about the idea this book proposed of finding a way I can still eat foods I love and get away with it. I'm glad I did more reading on my own before I caused more damage to my health.

This is a great buy! I've hit the 50 mark and things are moving along as they were in my 20's! I started carrying more around my middle than is necessary. I ordered this book and followed the breakdown of how to blend protein, fat and carbs and am down 15lbs! Mostly around my mid-section. I plan to continue the guides outlined here and incorporate more exercise (just ordered a Fitbit Flex 2) and will hopefully be able to work off another 10-20lbs over the next few months. For me, this was definitely worth the purchase price.

This book change my Life! I weighed 337 pounds when I started the program. I now weigh 155. I was on blood pressure medication, Acid reflex medication, and had an irregular cycle. I have been off those medications for a really long time, and my cycle is regular. This book work for me because it gave me the option to eat whatever type of food I wanted to as long as I kept it balanced. Plus, there’s always something to eat if I’m hungry. This eating method changed my life. I couldn’t be more grateful!

Shamefully marketed as a fad diet. This is a solid, research and clinically based approach to preventing and managing type 2 diabetes. And seems to be helping with cholesterol management as well (too early to say for sure).
