Advance praise for The Bourbon Country Cookbook:“When the first Saturday in May rolls around and you begin to long for a taste of that Old Kentucky home you may or may not hail from, but surely do revere, The Bourbon Country Cookbook is here to help take you home. Farm fresh and artisanal aren’t trends in the bluegrass state, but a long-established way of life. Add the resonant ring of the finest American distillation—Kentucky bourbon—as these brilliant chefs do, and you’ve created magnificence and memories. In fact, the recipes, stories, and photographs here are so fine, you won’t want to wait for a horse race, but use this book year ’round. After all, it’s always a fine time to eat and drink in Bourbon Country.†—Ronni Lundy, author of Victuals: An Appalachian Journey, with Recipes, winner of the 2017 James Beard Awards for Best American Cookbook and Book of the Year“A book that will stand as one of the most essential cookbooks in the history of Southern cuisine.†—Edward Lee, chef and author of Smoke and Pickles“The ultimate guide to modern Southern entertaining.†—The Bourbon Review“Generous Southern hospitality and reverence for the rich, deep history of the food and drink of the rolling bluegrass hills of Kentucky are at the heart of The Bourbon Country Cookbook. The book is so sharp looking. The cover tells me it’s a serious read and the colors and texture say “Buy meâ€. The photography is impeccable with the photos jumping out at you.I thought the forward by Edward Lee was well written and described perfectly the efforts put forth by Tim Laird, Lori Laird and David Danielson to publish this book. The history of Bourbon is going to go over hugely with bourbon history buffs and even those wanting to learn more about this delicious spirit.Of course, the recipes are so enticing. I can’t wait to try some of them very soon. The book has captured the essence of southern cooking in bourbon country. I'd buy more for friends who are interested in this southern cuisine and bourbon facts.
David Danielson and Tim Laird have written a wonderful Southern cook and cocktail book. It begins with the history of bourbon and its ties to Kentucky, including the famous Kentucky bourbon trail. Recipes for small plates, brunch, pickling, vegetables, grains, pasta, breads, fish, and meat follow, as well as sweets. I have tried the bourbon chocolate pecan pie and its worth the price of the book. The book is greatly enhanced by the photography of Dan Dry. If you want to know more about bourbon and southern cooking, I highly recommend this book.
Absolutely love this cookbook. The recipes are easy to follow. I can't decide which one to try first they all look so great. The photography is outstanding and I love the history of bourbon in the beginning of the book, also the cocktail recipes are easy to follow too. Each recipe has helpful tips that are very helpful. Going to buy more books to give as gifts. It is a beautiful cookbook!
